NQT Secondary Training Calendar


NW Maths Hub 3- led by The St Helens TSA would like to offer all Secondary Newly and Recently Qualified Maths Teachers the chance to attend the highly successful NQT/RQT Maths Programme.

The programme covers generic planning, organising and engagement tips plus essential subject specific pedagogy around mastery teaching of number and algebra and problem solving as well as an opportunity to mix with other maths NQTs in the region.

All sessions are 2pm - 4:30pm at Byrchall CPD Centre, Warrington Rd, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan WN4 9PQ

Autumn 1: Wed 3rd Oct 2018  This session will focus on preparing NQT’s for a very busy year with lots of practical tips for planning, organising and managing a smoothly run maths classroom.

Autumn 2: Tue 13th Nov 2018  Teaching and Learning session.  Here we will look at progression, mastery and quality resources for teaching fractions.  We will investigate the use of bar modelling and manipulatives to deepen students understanding of this key area of mathematics.

 

Spring 1: Tues 15th Jan 2019  This session will focus on behaviour management in the maths classroom.  Keeping students engaged and motivated with effective planning and resources.  We will also look at what effective assessment looks like and how this can inform future planning.

Spring 2: Thur 7th Mar 2019  Teaching and Learning session.  Here we will look at progression, mastery and quality resources for teaching algebra.  We will discuss the use of algebra tiles and other manipulatives that can be used to teach for real understanding.

 

Summer 1: Tue 7th May 2019  Teaching and Learning session.  Here we will look at embedding problem solving and ways to develop reasoning skills into every lesson.  We will investigate what problem solving looks like in the GCSE exam and how can we fully prepare our students for this.

Summer 2: Wed 26th June 2019  This session will focus on reflecting on the year and top tips for a high impact fresh start for September.

 

All sessions will be delivered by Lindsay Porter SLE Secondary Maths, NW3 Maths Hub Secondary Lead, current GCSE Examiner and former AQA North West Maths Advisor.

Secondary Schools that have signed the alliance partnership agreement with the St Helens TSA will receive 1 free place.

The full programme would usually cost £360.00 (£60 per session) if booked as a programme/block then you will receive it for £260.00

Cost per individual session = £60.00
